Chorlton and the Wheelies DVDs | Episode Guide

History

After the success of Jamie and the Magic Torch, Cosgrove-Hall Productions moved from cell animation into stop-motion model animation with Chorlton and the Wheelies.

This wonderful show introduced you to a Happiness Dragon called Chorlton.

A total of 40 episodes were made.

Each episode began with this catchy tune -

"Jump in we'll take you for a spin,
and show you round the Wheelie World.

Hop on it's fun to come along and take a look at Wheelie World.

You'll be surprised how good it feels.  To zoom around, and you'll wheel so merrily with me,
you don't need a ticket, 'cos we'll get you on for free.

And if you see the witch Fenella don't be worried,
'cos there's no cause for alarm, ha, ha, ha, ha.

'Cos we've got Chorlton who's a dragon,
and he'll keep you free from harm, ho, ho, ho, ho.

It's fun at anytime of year.  So put your wheels in second gear
and then hold tight, alright, we'll show you all the sights of Wheelie World."

Story

Wheelie World was smothered in gloom and most of its inhabitants were asleep, miserable and stuck fast. This wasn't what Wheelie World was supposed to look like. The gloom was created by an evil witch called Fenella.

One day an egg appeared - a very large, very cheerful and very daft egg. The egg didn't want to stay an egg for very long, and it hatched. As soon as it hatched the spell on Wheelie world was broken. Everyone started to wake up, they started smiling and joking.

No one had noticed the dragon that had emerged from the egg, and he was still asleep. When they did notice him, they didn't know what he was and thought he looked strange because he had no wheels (which nearly everyone in Wheelie World had) and Chorlton thought they were strange because they didn't have any legs and no tale.

After this the Wheelies adopted Chorlton and he agreed to stay.

Cholton

Chorlton is a happiness dragon and appeared from nowhere and hatched from an egg.  On the inside of his egg it said 'Made in Chorlton-Come-Hardy', so the Wheelies christened him Chorlton because he didn't have a name (which Chorlton didn't mind).

He likes living with the Wheelies and helps them in their continuing struggle against Fenella.

Chorlton sounds a bit stupid, but don't let that fool you, he has a heart of gold and would do anything for you.

He upsets Fenella constantly, because he's so nice and he calls her 'Little Old Lady' which makes her even madder. The trouble is that Chorlton doesn't realise this and thinks she is playing games with him.

Fenella

Spout hall is where Fenella the kettle witch lives. As the names implies, she lives in a large steel steam kettle on top of a large black kettle stand (I'm not sure that the tea would taste very nice - yuk!). For here she spies upon the inhabitants of Wheelie World using her Telescope and her spies.

Fenella speaks with a strong welsh accent, so if you see a welsh person be warned they could be a witch! (only joking, so please don't write to me and complain). Also she's green and wears a Fez.

She was only happy when she was causing misery for others. Until Chorlton arrived, she was getting her own way, but now Chorlton tries to thwart her evil.  She gets around by disappearing and re-appearing, but if she gets mad then she bounces in and out of the ground (with no hole).

Her magic doesn't seem to work on Chorlton and she dislikes him.

Clapp Trapp Von Spill-da-Beans

Clapp Trapp Von Spill-da-Beans is a German talking magic book and helps Fenella cook up fiendish plans and magic against the inhabitants of Wheelie World.

Oh and he always speaks in rhyme.

The Toadies
The Toadies, Fenella's fungus faced spies are everywhere (and they sound Japanese). They get around by disappearing and re-appearing, and report anything directly to Fenella.

Reilly
Reilly is the Irish Telescope in Fenella's kettle. He was kidnapped by Fenella from the end of a pier.

The Spikers
The Spikers are another of Fenella's henchmen, but don't seem to do much, apart from hanging around with their mates the Toadies.

Clifford
Clifford is Fenella's enormous son.  You don't see much of him, apart from his leg and boot (its strange you don't see his other leg?? I wonder if he hops everywhere?).

He is a little bit thick, but doesn't seem to follow in Fenella's evil ways.

Zoomer
Zoomer is a young wheelie boy who wears a flying cap.  He's named Zoomer because he is the fastest wheelie in wheelie world.

Jenny
Jenny is a young wheelie girl with a pink face and ginger hair and freckles

King Otto and Queen Doris
They are the King and Queen of Wheelie World. Queen Doris has a strong liking for hats and constantly admires Chorlton's hat.

The Minister
He is the Minister of all of the Wheelies. He takes himself too seriously, but most Wheelies take him with a pinch of salt.
